Walpole Fine China is a successful, established, family-run business that has been manufacturing exquisite bone china in its Stoke on Trent premises since 1976.

The majority of the company’s energy spend relates to the gas and electric kilns. The main half hourly electricity meter serves the manufacturing operations, and the office electricity is provided through a second, day night meter.

Staffordshire's expert advisor, for their county wide Low Carbon Business Programme (LCBEP), Pro Enviro Ltd., visited the Burslem premises in November 2020 to undertake a free energy efficiency review. Following in-depth analysis of Walpole's consumption data and the comprehensive on-site review, Pro Enviro supplied Walpole with a written report that made a number of recommendations. Each of these would reduce both consumption and levels of emissions. The project that made the biggest impact was the replacement compressor, which attracted almost £10,000 of grant funding toward the £16,497 project costs! With the support of Pro Enviro, Walpole Fine Bone China successfully applied for a grant to replace their old compressors, with net project costs of £16,497.63, and received their grant of £9,898.58 in December 2020.

Taking into consideration the company’s contribution of £6,599.05 and their estimated annual savings of £5,700, their project payment period is calculated as just over 1 year!
